Notes:
Last Month: discussed space constraints on lunch
This Meeting: needs more structure — 3 parts:
1. Provide forum — chat about new/continuous issues.
2. Decide how to approach the issues/problems.
3. Focus on the Long-term project and give homework.
Hunter Online:
Ms. Airoldi -idea of online life:
-Middle States: A Separate Committee for Cyber-Bullying
-discussed developing an educational component to this issue, to inform student and give constructive advice
–Cyber-Bullying has no student representative (suggestion for students in this committee to overlap in that committee)
-in surveys: have not asked directly about cyber-bullying, but rather internets relationship with procrastination
–some within the surveys asked for help in their time management for guidance.
–need to develop a healthy relationship with the computer, that can still be productive.
Jenny/Nora:
-Dr. Fisher Meeting: manageable goal to accomplish
–a report on internet use for the whole community to read
-HLC should be discussion based and solution based
-this timeline is supposed to create structure and deadlines to further progress made a certain issues.
-7th grade/12th grade uses Facebook for different ways
-no one to communicate it to anyone else
–someone on term board should represent the grade and talk to someone on the counseling department to get issues heard.
-Reddit.com — a way for the Hunter community to become connected
–it links to other articles and is a system of dialogue for intra-community use.
–if publicized well, it could become a great source of communication
-The whole school should benefit from the solutions of this committee, not just committee members.
-Could communicate between between meetings, assign homework, create sub-committees for specific tasks,
Homework:
-before the nest meeting, assignments should be given.
- what about life do we want to know?
– 1st: How do students use the internet?
– 2nd: How does the internet impact upon the academic community?
– 3rd: Why are so many students having trouble on Facebook?
-send answers to PTA Hunter Life mailbox
Why this is necessary:
- on Professional Development Day, the teachers were educated on the students usage of the internet, and it enlightened many teachers
- it is necessary to focus on the well-being of students — inform that straight A’s are not only what is important in this community

8th grade—term waived by quarter
7th grade—end of the year
11th grade—awkward for student teacher relationships
Vote:
1 Survey only ½ way through 0
2 Survey only at the end of course 2
3 Both 5
4 2013 after summer 3
- ½ way and end structured differently
-no inherit benefits to halfway survey…
- if teachers don’t like it then won’t use comments
- start to come off as ranting
- it is for teachers
- ½ way through does not benefit teachers, only students
Revote
1 Survey only at the end of course 1
2 Both 4
3 2013 after summer and end of year 5
- multiple choice—confined to choices and not honest
-after summer wont remember good things
-negative outlook on school
-1st multiple choice—got idea
-2nd would specify
Agree:
1st 1-5 multiple choice
2nd longer response
to move further, invite faculty to meetings
-needs foresight
-better if questions come from teachers themselves: dept. heads send in 3-5 questions
-does not really help teachers at the beginning of the year
- to ease in 1st year be most appeasing/generous
- invite a faculty member from every department
- meeting next Thursday

-everyone highlighting different things
-what should it be—we need clear intent
Helen: feedback to teachers for better classroom environments
Students have say, content can change length can change

- nothing is an obligation
- customizable—post semester (less open ended) or post full year (more open ended)
PTA
- $1500 grant
- part to pay for fee waivers
- $750 gift
Exam Period—Midterms
- early graduation
